Introduction

CERAMICS WORKSHOP

- The ceramics workshop gave me the basic skills on how to create a plaster cast using an existing mould that the technician provided for us. These skills give us the ability to explore different forms and materials that conventional models wont. Moving on to the advanced session, it allowed me to explore different facades and this related to my design projects. For example because i wanted to explore natural forms in my design and take inspiration from grapes, i used bubble wrap to create a similar form. This workshop is vital to my future as an architecture student as it will become useful when trying to explore materials like concrete in technical models.

WOOD WORKSHOP

- The wood workshop is one of the first workshop i did and probably one of the most important. As an architecture student, modelling is an extremely vital tool to explore ideas and one of the main materials for doing this is timber. The basic session involved me creating a mould for my plaster cast for my bubble wrap. In the advanced session we were doing a group model and the basic session helped with these skills. For the model we were using oak as the base.

METAL WORKSHOP

- For the metal workshop I did no create anything particular, and the reason for this is due to the fact that metal can be quite a complex shape to work with and it is important i understood this before i undertook any challenges. The basic skills involved cutting, bending metal and spot welding. The advanced skills included brazing and MIG welding. These sessions are useful and will come in handy in the future when exploring structure models to represent steel or whether it is to represent metal cladding.
