Metal
Basic Session
Mark out metal sheets with a scriber and marker

Cutting the metal sheets using the guillotine
Bending the metal sheets to create my desired form
Using a vice i straightened the metal with some force
I then used the metal file to take any rough ages off
All the combined metal sheets cut and bent
Using a spot welder I produced a form using all the sheets
Final model
Improvements
Bending the metal manually allowed me to amend the shape where it was not a good shape to spot weld. This step allowed me to control the bends easier then the bending machine.
Improvements
Within this step It was fairly important that i sanded down the edges in order to avoid cutting my self as the sharp metal can easily pierce the skin.

Reflection
Overall I was happy with the design, however the main problem i had in creating this shape was because of the complexed angles i was not able to spot weld them as they were tight angles. Therefore in the future i would need to consider the angles of my model and whether using spot welding is the ideal solution.
Metal
Advanced Session
Using a metal saw i cut the metal pipes

Metal pipes after they have been cut
Metal pipes after they have been cut
Using the file, i sanded down the pipe down create a groove
This image shows how the groove allows it to fit better
Experimenting with the MIG welder settings to get the perfect weld
Using magnets to stabalise the metal pieces
Wearing a welding shield and gloves i wleded the metal sheets
two pipes welded together
These were tests of me learning to weld
Tool to create a small spark to light the brazing tool.
Heating metal sheets together hot enough to add brazing
Brazing weld
Brazing weld
Improvements
During this time i should have taken more time to sand down the metal pieces in order to create a better groove, this would have allowed for a better fitment and would have meant when i was welding the pieces together it would have been easier.

Improvements
This was a critical aspect that i do not have enough experience in. The MIG welder can be set up on by changing the dial settings to reduce or increase the power, this will either make the weld weaker or stronger
Improvements
The hardest bit of welding was holding the weld for the perfect amount of time, if i held it too long it will burn through the metal, and if i did not do it long enough then the weld will not be strong enough.
Improvements
The weld could have been neater and i could have tried to practise more on a test piece.
Improvements
My initial test piece where i was practising my welding. This should have been practised a lot more so when i cam to the real piece i got the neatest weld
Reflection
Overall i was happy with my welding and the technician said for a first time welding it was a successful attempt. However in term for improving it will require me to practise more as is it is the best way to learn.
Improvements
With brazing as it was a more hands role i was not able to get as many photographs to record the process.
Improvements
The first step was to heat the metal to a red cherry hot colour. Once it achieved this colour i would the melt the brass to stick the two pieces of metal together. I could have improved this process by simultaneously feeding in the brass while heating the metal, this would have made it easier to braze.
Reflection
Overall i was happy with my weld and it was probably the best i could have got it for doing it for my first time. However just like the welding, this will require more practise if it was to be a better weld.
